We’re going to be Disney Land!

Wait a minute did you just read that correctly? Were going to Disneyland? Well the answer is yes I am so excited! Its my first holiday abroad since becoming wheelchair bound. Lets just say it will be an adventure to of a life time and I can’t wait! My family and I,, we are going via Lshuttle which will go directly to Calais. It will then be another 4 hour drive to Paris. Its long and exhausting but so worth it. The reason why we are driving is because we have so much equipment it’s ridiculous but I’ve wanted to do this since forever. Of course I will document every single little bit of it. Its going to be so much fun and so magical. The most exciting part that I’m looking forward to is the fireworks over the castle. I’ve seen so many videos and its just beautiful.

Things we have considered before we went ahead with the booking?

Going away when you’re a wheelchair user isn’t as simple or as straightforward as it may seem. For me it is very difficult because I’ve got a tracheostomy, I need to think about the equipment I need to take and how much. I need to think about how accessible the accommodation is. My last holiday was the most stressful holiday ever! We booked with company called holiday cottages and we stayed in a barn called Stoaway barn. Don’t get me wrong it was beautiful but the access was terrible. I had to be carried around the house, the hallway was just far to narrow for my chair to fit through. The path outside was all gravely that the stones were just getting stuck in my wheels. It was awful. Of course I tried not to moan about it since it was my first holiday and I didn’t want to come across as ungrateful but it was definitely hard and definitely a learning curve for us.

For this holiday, we made sure to get some where with a profiling bed, a hoist and all the other really important things that we needed to make this more easier for us. We went online and booked Disney Land with a company called Disabled holidays. This agency specifically focuses on helping disabled people book there dream holiday not just the UK, but around the world to and I would totally recommend using this agencyFor this holiday, we made sure to get some where with a profiling bed, a hoist and all the other really important things that we needed to make this more easier for us. Its simple and so straight forward. Before we booked the whole thing we made sure to book travel insurance just in case one of us was sick. Now we don’t need to worry about anything because we know that its going to be accessible, have a hoist and a profiling bed. Its going to be so much fun!

List full of Attractions

Another thing is that I did was make a list of all the attractions in both parks there that are completely wheelchair friendly. I mean, I could get transferred but I chose not to as I don’t really like being picked up if I’m honest. Not in front of people anyway. But yeah I listed rides down like Its a small World and Ratoullie. Im so glad that Its a small world is wheelchair friendly. Its one of my most favourite rides ever since I was young. I just loved watching all the figures from around the world. Its so beautiful. I haven’t been on that ride since I was 8 and I cannot wait!

Booking a priority access card

In my calendar a month before we go I made sure to book a Disneys priority access card A priority card gives priority (but not immediate) access to visitors with official proof of disability accepted at Disneyland Paris. For attractions, theatres, outdoor shows, parades, meetings with the characters and checkouts at our restaurants and shops but you must order it one month before you go and pick it up at the hotel your staying at. We are staying in Cheyenne hotel and its cowboy themed as well. I’m so excited!!

We’re so excited for our trip to Disneyland! It’s going to be amazing to meet our favorite characters, go on fun rides, and just enjoy the magic of it all. We can’t wait to make memories that we’ll always remember. Stay tuned—I’ll share more about our adventure soon! Disneyland, here we come!

Love Robyn
